Rustic Knights Ferry, California was originally founded in 1848. Founded by Dr. William Knight, and originally founded as a ferry-ing stop for those seeking gold, the town of Knights Ferry transitioned from gold rush town, to industrial area (you can still see the flour mill) to a haven for those seeking outdoor recreation.

The Tulloch Mill Ruins, huge roofless rooms scattered about with bits and pieces of old machinery, stonily overlook the Stanislaus River below. This massive building which once tapped the power of the fiery river now stands empty and silent; only the river remains unchanged.

Woodward Reservoir Regional Park is located at 14528 26-Mile Rd., a few miles north of Oakdale off Highway 120. It offers over 3,700 acres of land and 2,900 acres of reservoir for recreation and camping.
